It is a well known fact that natural sesame oil, has very high potency medicinal value. This oil is used for edible purposes as well as physical purposes. The oil is used in massages throughout the world. The ancient Indian massage therapy has a very prominent role for sesame oil. Sesame oil has a sweet taste and a mild heating quality. It not only tones up the skin and improves the complexion, it also relieves stress and strain and increases body energy and strength.
It is best to warm the oil before applying, so that the temperature is comfortable. This is especially important for oils that are intended to invigorate the circulation and relax the muscles. At the end of the massage, a warm wet towel can be pressed onto the skin to help absorb any residual oil.
Using sesame oil as cooking medium helps to reduce high blood pressure and lower the amount of medication required to control high blood pressure, this has been reported in a study by researchers in India. The study looked at the effect of sesame oil amongst 328 people with hypertension who were taking 10 to 30 milligrams a day of the calcium, channel blocker drug nifedipine, which lowers blood pressure by relaxing arterial membranes. They consumed an average of 35 grams of sesame oil a day for 60 days. The study found using sesame oil as their sole cooking oil lowered their blood pressure levels from 166 mm Hg systolic to 134 mm Hg and from 101 mm diastolic to 84.6 mm Hg. |
